CRUDE OIL ESPO; BLCO; WTI; HEAVY AND LIGHT;

is a mixture of hydrocarbons that exists in the liquid phase in natural underground reservoirs and remains liquid at atmospheric pressure after passing through surface-separating facilities.

1. ESPO (Eastern Siberia-Pacific Ocean):

    • Description: ESPO crude oil is a high-quality, low-sulfur crude oil from Eastern Siberia, Russia. It is known for its purity and is a valuable resource for refineries.
    • Properties: ESPO crude typically has low sulfur content and a high API gravity, making it a light and sweet crude oil.

2. BLCO (Bonny Light Crude Oil):

    • Description: BLCO is a premium, light, and sweet crude oil from Nigeria. It is a major Nigerian export and is highly prized in the global market.
    • Properties: Bonny Light crude oil is characterized by its low sulfur content and high API gravity, making it an easily processed, valuable crude oil.

3. WTI (West Texas Intermediate):

    • Description: WTI is a benchmark crude oil from the Permian Basin region of Texas, USA. It serves as a global reference price for crude oil.
    • Properties: WTI is a light, sweet crude oil with low sulfur content and a high API gravity. Its consistent quality and location make it an important benchmark in the oil industry.

4. Heavy and Light Crude Oil:

    • Description: Crude oil is broadly classified into heavy and light grades based on its density and viscosity. Heavy crude is denser and more viscous, while light crude flows more easily.
    • Properties: Heavy crude oils have lower API gravity and higher sulfur content compared to light crude oils. Light crude oils are easier to refine into valuable products like gasoline due to their purity.

Overall Classification: Crude oil is categorized into specific grades like ESPO, BLCO, and WTI, each with its unique characteristics. Additionally, crude oil can be broadly classified as heavy or light based on its density and viscosity, impacting its refining and market applications.
